Before you create software for the iPhone, Apple demands that you sign away a laundry list of rights, including the ability to sell rejected apps through other channels, the ability to sue Apple for more than $50, and the ability to reverse-engineer or modify the iPhone or its SDK — and even the right to talk about your agreement with Apple.

“Work from home” job scams

March 5th, 2010
by Rich

Recently, I have been job hunting and like most days I go online to Craigslist, Careerbuilder, monster.com and find things from the paper. Today, I found a news article that states Google is hiring people to “work from the comfort of their own homes posting links.”

They say all you have to do is follow these 3 steps:

  1. Get Easy Google Profit(links to a site for a product called MY HOME CASH KIT ™)
  2. Post links given to you by Google
  3. Deposit the check Google sends you!

I used to work for a company that used this marketing ploy for their product. After working there a while and hearing too many customer complaints about the billing practices, I became aware of the scam that was being pulled. So here is the description of this particular scam broken down by their steps:

Step 1 – sign up and pay just $2 shipping. Yeah sure! But what their not stating until the terms and conditions checkbox, is that once you give your credit card info to charge that $2 shipping for the kit, you are only getting a 7 day trial. And if you don’t call in before the 7 days are up, you are agreeing to pay $72.85 for the program and $72.85 every month thereafter. This is where most people get scammed. They don’t read the fine print.

Step 2 – post links given to you by Google. At the bottom of the site (the fine print) it says “Google does not sponsor, endorse, nor is in any way affiliated with MY HOME CASH KIT ™.Product is not affiliated in any way with Yahoo, Bing, ABC, NBC, MSN.” So Google has nothing to do with this kit. So these links that you will be given, will not be coming from Google, but probably from a third party.

Step 3 – Deposit the check Google sends you! Like I stated in the last step, Google has nothing to do with this kit. How are you getting paid by Google?

This is a complete scam and there are others similar to this out there. Like I said before, I used to work for a company whom shall remain nameless, INTERNET SPEEDWAY!! (oh did I say that out loud?), that used this tactic of marketing. They promise a kit to work from home doing only a few hours of work a day. Just pay $10 shipping for the kit and get a 30 day trial. But if you don’t cancel within your trial, we will charge you $70 each month till you do cancel, but if you cancel, you won’t be able to make that big bundle of money. I worked in customer service and got about a hundred calls a day of people complaining about the prices and wanting to cancel, finally I saw the scam. Now, every time I see one of these gimmicks, I know what’s going on.  I hope you will know to be weary of these scams and don’t get caught up in one.

Website update

February 14th, 2010
by Rich

I’ve decided that my websites need a little updating. I have a personal blog site, and a site about my tech geek business. My Rowlandpro site used to be a site for my multimedia and web design business, but I changed it to use for my geek for hire business. Then I started getting some good multimedia gigs. So I have been wanting to change it back. But before I can do that, I still have to have my geek for hire stuff up somewhere. So I looked at some other sites out there. Most freelancers have their professional website with a blog. So I thought that I should combine my personal site with my freelance site. Now I won’t be posting much personal stuff anymore. This site will now be for my freelance geek for hire, general Technology site. I will include posts on news about what projects I’m working on, and how my “Full-time Job” search is going. And then I will redo my Rowlandpro.com site to be a more business-like site for my Multimedia Business. Look for more changesand updates soon.

by Rich

This Year's Theme 3.5 days till Mission Sunday 2009. Will we have the presentation ready? 2 of 6 videos done. I have to redo the Nigeria video, ugh! Tonight I will be getting the voiceover track recorded for Costa Rica, and will finish the video tomorrow. So I still have to redo Nigeria, Create a Ghana video and finish Costa Rica, plus do a Year in review slideshow containing pictures from all mission areas to the Light the fire song.
